My little black book

I have been a fan of Nina Garcia ever since she showed up as the very blunt and honest judge on Project Runway. While my first few thoughts of her were, "What is wrong with this lady?" They soon turned into admiration and it has only grown since reading The Little Black Book of Style. While other "style" books tell you what to wear and when to wear it, Nina encourages readers to find what works for them. Nina writes that confidence is the first step in developing a personal style. Because really, how else would some wear in what they do? While she does write about ten basic rules, they are well workable to everyone's style choices.
Her book is also filled with many quotes from style icons and the like. The last chapter is advice from many influential individuals in the fashion world. This book is short and sweet, it gets to point without making a bunch of filler about what you supposedly should and shouldn't do when you decide what to wear.

"But style is personal. There is no herd to follow. There are no rules. There are no seasons. Style comes from within." (Nina Garcia)

Brilliant. Purely Brilliant.

Concerts and parties, darling

Yesterday proved to be an eventful day. I saw my boyfriend's band perform for the first time. Which, I must say, they sounded good for it being their first gig and all. Unfortunately I had to leave early for a party..So, here is the outfit that got me through..

Dress/Top: Free People
Dark Skinnies: BDG.
Green Flats: Bitten by SJP ($10!)
Gold Heart Necklace: Made by me from assorted leftover jewelry

I can never get a good picture of the bottom half of my outfit...Sorry bout that. Hope fully my picture taking ability gets better soon....

Hanging with the boys

To be completely honest, I do not always care what I look like when I am just going to chill around the house all day. However, I loathe sweats and all those things people wear when they want to have a lazy day. I still want to feel somewhat cute while I am prancing around my house and getting things done. My solution to all this slobby madness: guys t-shirts.

Tee-Shirt: Guys section in Target
Light Wash Boot Cut Jeans: Citizens For Humanity

They are great because even if they shrink a little, they still fit my somewhat long frame. Except one problem I found when shopping for them is that virtually no one makes an XS for boys. So, I just put my shirt on backwards and gather up a bit of fabric in the back then safety pin it to make it a bit more body conscious. I also roll up the sleeves if they are too long for my liking.

Sailor moon

It was warm. Oh so warm today. But I have dug out my shorts. And I got the comment today that i looked like a sailor. Apparently all I needed was a little sailor hat.

I answered the florist with a sparkle

OMG! Florals! I found something a little bit floral in my closet and it made me very happy. Plus, the weather was just perfect for something like this. The California weather is finally cooperating so I can wear my flip-flops in the morning without my toes getting cold. But I feel like I may be coming into a bit of a style rut...it's always so hard to dress cute when you really only want to wear a tank top in the warm weather...while I work out that, look at these...

Grey Sweather Thing: BDG.
Green Tank (underneath): Forever 21
Floral Tank: Free People
I am wearing jeans, there is no pic.
Necklace: a boutique nearby
Sandals: bought them in Greece

It was more like indigo

I had to sell tickets at church this morning for a fundraiser so I thought I would dress up a little more. Sadly, my purse came out almost black in the second post. Its really more of an indigo.

Navy and White Striped Dress: I.N.C. at Macy's
Purse: Louis Vuitton Vernis (yes, its real)
Kitten Heels: Kenneth Cole from Nordstrom

I finally learned how to put a header on my blog, any thoughts about it would be appreciated?
Now I am off to hang out in an outfit that is, sadly, not worth mentioning.

Not So Lazy Saturday

Last night was spent with one of my bestest friends in the world. Haven't had a good talk like that in a while like the one I had with her. But sadly, when we went thrifting there were no cute florals that I was willing to pay for. It may have been because the Salvation Army was having a 50 percent off sale..lame for me because I found nothing.
However, I made tutus! And I promise to have pics up sometime within the next week.

For today, I have a group project that needs to be completed. So comfort is in order here.

Light Yellow Tee: Urban Outfitters
Black Tank: Target
Grey Cord Skinnies: Urban Outfitters
Double Wrap Bracelet: Urban Outfitters
Leopard Nanette Lepore Keds: Nordstrom
Super Stealth Ninja moves provided by me. :p

Just a side, note. I thought my weird little bun came out quite nicely. And it took me a mere two minutes. Ching-now!

Disclaimed

I do not own all of the photos that I post. Nor do I claim to.
